Self Harm

Self Harm

/

Developed by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, On Edge is a resource pack for teachers and other practitioners working with young people. The lesson plan included below focuses on understanding the meaning of ‘self-harm’ and recognises possible life events that could lead to self-harm.

This lesson plan addresses the delicate subject of self harm. We know that people tend to shy away from discussing the topic and so we hope that this lesson plan equips you with the tools you need to have the conversation in your classrooms. We suggest that you notify your Pastoral team that you’ll be discussing this topic with your students so they can be aware of any safeguarding concerns afterwards. To access additional lesson plans within the On Edge Resource Pack click here.

For additional support on self harm, we highly recommend stem4’s free pioneering app that helps teenagers resist or manage the urge to self-harm. stem4 is a charity that promotes positive mental health in teenagers and those who support them through the provision of mental health education, resilience strategies and early intervention.
